Uncovering Who You Really Are.
Growing up, so much of who we are is shaped by the world around us. Our parents, our culture, our communities- they hand us a blueprint: Here’s how to behave. Here’s what success looks like. Here’s what’s expected of you.
Sometimes, we’re even handed dreams that aren’t ours to carry - dreams that belonged to someone else, someone who never got the chance to chase them. While there’s nothing wrong with guidance or tradition, it can also cloud the quiet truth underneath:
Who am I, really?
What do I love, without all the noise?
We are all born with something special - a spark, a gift, a way of being that is completely our own. Wouldn’t it be a shame to live an entire life without ever discovering what that is?
The Power of Experience
I truly believe that immersing yourself in different experiences is one of the most powerful ways to uncover who you really are. New experiences stretch you. They pull you out of your comfort zone. They show you parts of yourself you didn’t know were there. It takes courage to walk into something unfamiliar. But the more you do it, the less fear takes the lead. Fear slowly turns into curiosity. Curiosity becomes confidence. And suddenly, you’re not just trying something new - you’re becoming someone new.
From Self-Conscious to Free
For me, dancing was always one of those “not for me” things. I admired people who could just let go on the dance floor - the freedom, the joy, the way they moved like no one was watching. Meanwhile, I stayed on the sidelines, convinced I wasn’t “that kind of person.” But then I started going to a mat Pilates class. Part of the class - to my surprise - included a movement practice where you dance. The first time? I barely moved. Just a little side-to-side sway, hoping no one was looking. It felt awkward. Unnatural. Uncomfortable. But I kept going. Week by week, something shifted. My body stopped fighting it. My mind stopped caring so much. Eventually, I found myself dancing - actually dancing - without overthinking, without holding back. It wasn’t just about the movement. It was about freedom. It was about giving myself permission to be seen, to feel joy, to take up space. That simple practice changed something in me.
What Else Is Waiting To Be Found?
That’s the beauty of trying something new. It’s not about becoming someone else - it’s about remembering who you really are underneath it all. Maybe there’s a part of you that’s been buried under fear. Or pushed aside because it didn’t fit someone else’s vision for your life. Or maybe, like dancing was for me, it’s something you admire in others but never imagined for yourself. But what if you tried? What if you gave yourself the chance to see what’s there?
You’re Not Finished Yet
We’re not meant to stay the same. You’re allowed to evolve, to grow, to explore sides of yourself that were once hidden. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Start with one new thing. Say yes to something that scares you just a little. Let yourself be curious. Because every new experience holds a mirror to who you are becoming. The more you explore, the more you remember: You’re not here to live someone else’s story. You’re here to live fully, deeply, and authentically.
That starts by showing up - again and again - to the unknown.
